Call for Participants for photographing meditation study.

Who can apply?

- If you're over 18 years of age, have a meditation practice and would like to share your experience - I would love to hear from you!

WHAT? I'm looking for 20 individuals to be photographed in the usual environment they meditate. This could be your home, your garden, etc - wherever you ordinarily practice. I am also looking to discuss with you briefly the story of how you started meditating and any effects that you notice, during or as a result of your practice.

HOW? I expect our sessions to take no more than 2 hours in order for me to take two photographs of you: one portrait and one image of you meditating. You need to be comfortable with me being in your meditating space so that I can capture the essence of the moment visually.

WHEN? I'll be photographing throughout October - November - early December, depending on the number and availability of participants. Before you apply, please ensure you will be available during these months.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU? As a thank you for your time I will offer you a print from our session - this will come after the project has been completed. It's also an opportunity for you to share any benefits or difficulties you recognise in meditation practice and add to the wider conversation about the value of cultivating one's inner landscape. You will be invited to the exhibition and I will share with you any resulting publications. During our session I will be using an analogue large format camera and you'll be able to witness the process.

Please note that I am looking to share the findings of the project in 2024 in the form of an exhibition and a publication and will ask you to sign a release form, which I will provide.

How to apply?

If this sounds like a project you'd like to contribute to please fill out the form HEREThe deadline for all forms is 29 October 2023.

Who am I and why am I doing this?

My name is Martyna Maz and I am a Glasgow based artist. I have always been interested in bridging the gap between what is seen and unseen, between what I observe with my senses and what lays under the veil of my perception.

Following on from my last project entitled Fragmented Landscapes (you can read more about it HERE) I am continuing my exploration of the unknown and the unfamiliar utilising my passion for analogue photography. Over the years I've recognised a connection between the process of creating images and the process of life. It is my joy to keep exploring this relationship to get to know myself and others more deeply.

I hope this project can open up wider conversation about who / what creates the reality we perceive and what perspectives or actions affect it.
